Handmade in Murrumbateman
Top bar hives are a horizontal format for beekeeping based on the way they’ve been keeping bees in Africa for thousands of years. You only need to lift one bar at a time, about 2 kg, and everything is at waist height.
These hives are handcrafted using 40 mm plantation-grown radiata pine for the sides and bottom, weathertex cladding for the roof (35 year guarantee), and treated pine legs. This is the Australian version of the TBH which is shallower and sightly wider than the U.S. version. If requested, we can fit an optional glass viewing window with removable cover. Roof tilts back and is held open with two gas struts. There are 28 numbered bars and 2 follower boards. Bees enter through three holes in the middle of the hive. Top bar hives come fully assembled, the roof is painted and the sides are sealed with outdoor furniture oil. Legs can be removed for transport or shipping.
Must be pre-ordered, and it takes 4 to 6 weeks to make them.
May be purchased with a colony of bees for an additional $240. Click here to book bees.
