Handmade in Murrumbateman
Top bar hives are a horizontal format for beekeeping based on the way they’ve been keeping bees in Africa for thousands of years. These hives are handcrafted using 38 mm plantation-grown radiata pine for the sides and bottom, Western red cedar for the roof, and treated pine legs. This is the Australian version of the TBH which is shallower and sightly wider than the U.S. version. If requested, we can fit an optional glass viewing window with removable cover. Roof tilts back and is held open with a gas strut. There are 28 numbered bars and 2 follower boards. Bees enter through three holes in the middle of the hive. Top bar hives come fully assembled, all you need to do is paint or seal them. Alternatively, we can paint them or seal them for an additional $100. Legs can be removed for transport or shipping.
Must be pre-ordered, and it takes 3 or 4 weeks to make them. Free delivery, within 50 km of Murrumbateman.
May be purchased with a colony of bees for an additional $240. Click here to book bees.
