Bees Plus Top Bar Hive Package

Often called the Keyan Top Bar Hive, these hives are inspired by the way they have kept bees in Africa for thousands of years. The hive has sloped sides and bees attach their comb to bars arranged horizontally in the box. This is the Australian version of the TBH which is shallower and sightly wider than the U.S. version.

We use 38 mm plantation-grown radiata pine for the sides and bottom, Weathertex cladding for the roof, and treated pine for the legs. Roof tilts back and is held open with two gas struts. There are 28 numbered bars, 4 spare bars, 2 spacer bars, and 2 follower boards. Bees enter through three holes at the center of back of the hive. Top bar hive comes fully assembled, all you need to do is paint or seal it. If requested, we can fit an optional glass viewing window and cover for $100; we can also paint and/or seal it for an additional $100. Legs can be removed for transport or shipping.

The total cost of the hive is $1290 and bees $240, both can be booked for $50 deposit.

Must be pre-ordered, and it takes 4 or 6 weeks to make them.

The top bar hive is quite big and heavy to move, so when you come to collect it you’ll need a ute or trailer. Bees should be transported separately in a top bar travelling box. We can deliver and install the bees at no charge within 50 km of Murrumbateman.
